Hey beautiful people! Hope you are doing great. As you all know me by my previous blogs I am Fsaih-Ur-Rehman the student of English Works Program. Which is a blessing itself.
In this program we have so many activities lined up waiting for us and we had already done this one which is called Beach Clean-up activity which was held on April 13, 2019 at Clifton beach near Chunky Monkey amusement park.
Before briefing about that activity I want to divert your attention towards that what is Community Service and why we should do it? As you all know in this modern era of technology we all live in a form of community and we all are inter-dependent on each other in some or more ways. So as individual we grow ourselves and automatically our community grow along with us, and when community grows we grow ourselves. It like vice versa! First as individual we built our community and then the whole community built us. Community gives us our basic needs, our way of living, our medium of communication and most importantly the opportunities to grow more and more. So in return we should do something more for our community which it deserve. That’s why we as EWP team decided to do some kind of community service to payback to our community.
As you know in EWP we all are learning from real life experiences. So we our management decided to do a pre-activity a day before actual activity. In pre-activity we came to know about our marine life and its problem through a video via infographic chart which was shown in our class by our teachers. Which was a whole new experience for me. After watching video we made a presentation with the help of information we gathered by watching video. Here is the poster we made:
On next day which was of course the Beach Clean-up day we gathered at our EWP center and went on beach together and reached at 9:00 pm. Hopefully the weather was good. After 10 mints American Native Speakers joined us. There were six groups of students and for each group one American Speaker. At first we found the beach very clean but as we go into it we found so many trash and realized that it will take more effort than we think for that small part of beach. We were also speaking to American speakers alongside picking up trash. This was a whole new experience for me. I learnt so many new things about American culture and also tell about told them about our Pakistani culture as well. This process continued for almost one hour. We almost filled 50+ trash bags and dumped them in the corner outside the beach. After departure of American native speakers we all were set to come back home but our EWP management surprised us with the yummy breakfast. We had a good breakfast of our desi food Halwa Poori along with tea. Tea was fantastic. It was a wonderful surprise for all the students.
At this point I want to admit that was the first time I did any kind of community service at that level in my whole life and the experience was awesome. I have learnt so many things in that short period. It was all because of EWP. Thanks to them. Now i have intentions to paticipate in more and more these kind of these activities to pay back to my community which it provides me all the time. I wish that in future i will be giving more of these activities through this platform.
PEACE!
